Reward-based participation

Reward-based participation

Every Crankk gateway must lock an amount of CRKK tokens in a 'Proof-Of-Network Participation' or 'PoNP' contract to make it eligible to contribute to the network and be rewarded for it.

Reward‑based participation is the new contract model for Crankk’s Gateways, where the required amount to lock is determined by projected gateway earnings rather than a fixed token value. The goal is that a gateway performing at average levels should be able to earn back its locked amount via regular network rewards over a foreseeable timeframe (≈ two years).

Existing users’ gateways are eligible to transition to the Reward-based participation model if their currently locked participation amount exceeds the new required amount.

In this case, a button will appear on your gateway’s Proof-Of-Trust tab. Users can click this button to start the transition.

If the Proof‑Of‑Trust tab shows no button to transfer or return excess locked funds, it means your gateway's currently locked participation amount is already below (or exactly at) the new required amount. No action is needed.

New gateways participate in the Reward-based participation contract by defaultµ.

New gateways (onboarded from September 26, 2025 and onward) participate in the Reward-based participation contract by default.

Existing users' gateways that are eligible (this is the case if their currently locked participation amount exceeds the new required amount.) must manually transition by clicking a button in their gateway's Proof-of-Trust tab.

Only one button will appear, either 'Transfer to boost' or 'Return funds', depending on the excess amount and the current gateway boost status. These buttons will either respectively transfer excess participation funds to a gateway boost or return them to your gateway wallet.

If the Proof‑Of‑Trust tab shows no button to transfer or return excess locked funds, it means your gateway's currently locked participation amount is already below (or exactly at) the new required amount. No action is needed.

Only once.

The transitioning mechanism is solely developed to transfer existing gateways from the older participation model to the Reward-based participation model. Once transitioned, your gateway will follow the new rules by default.

New gateways (onboarded on September 26th, 2025 and onwards) will follow the Reward-based participation model by default.

If future network average gateway rewards lead to new participation requirements, only un-participating and re-participating with your gateway will apply the latest participation requirements.

It means your gateway's currently locked participation amount exceeds the new required amount for Reward-based participation, and your gateway is not yet (fully) boosted. Excess locked funds will be converted into a boost untill the boost level of 100% is reached. Any excess locked funds beyond this level will be transferred to your gateway wallet.

If a gateway's currently locked participation amount exceeds the new required amount for Reward-based participation, and your gateway is not yet (fully) boosted. Excess locked funds will be converted into a gateway boost until the boost level of 100% is reached. Any excess locked funds beyond this level will be transferred to your gateway wallet.

  • If this gateway was already boosted, adding more funds does not reset nor extend the boost period — the original boost end date stays the same.

  • If this action creates a new gateway boost, a 1-year lock-up period starts from the moment the funds are transferred.

  • Any funds beyond the maximum boost level are returned to your gateway wallet immediately and are fully liquid.

This button appears on a gateway's Proof-Of-Trust tab when this gateway is eligible for transitioning to the Reward-based participation model (meaning its currently locked participation amount exceeds the new required amount) and already benefits from a maximum boost of 100%. Clicking “Return Now” transfers the excess locked funds directly to your gateway wallet.

Buttons to transition to the Reward-based participation model only appear in your gateway's Proof-Of-Trust tab when the gateway is eligible for transitioning to the Reward-based staking model.

If the Proof‑Of‑Trust tab shows no button to transfer or return excess locked funds, it means your gateway's currently locked participation amount is already below (or exactly at) the new required amount. Your gateway already benefits from the best possible contract. No action is needed.
