Network and Coverage

Network and Coverage

Coverage & rank

Rewards are based on successfully completing 'beaconing-witnessing' cycles. Witnessing many other gateway's beacons proves good coverage and is rewarded each time. Rewards are then weighed (resized) based on your gateway's rank before being distributed to your wallet. Your gateway's rank should be equal to or above the network average to be eligible for the full reward. Your rank indicates your gateway's usefulness.

Place your gateway at an optimal distance from other gateways to maximize network coverage and increase your rank. Ensure they are not too close to each other to avoid redundant coverage overlap. This would decrease its rank.

Positioning & hardware

Best results are achieved if your gateway (antenna) has a 'clear line of sight' to other gateways and potential sensors. Higher is usually better; outside is better than inside; behind a window is better than behind a wall.

A high-quality setup returns higher rewards: use a quality LoRaWAN antenna that suits your location, use a short (low-loss) coax cable to connect your antenna to your gateway and use as little connectors in between as possible. Place your antenna as high up as possible.

Yes. We are currently beta-testing sensor utility and sensor onboarding. Sensor data is available in both the User Dashboard and in the mobile app. Open a ticket in our official Discord server and our support team will guide you through the process of setting up and onboarding your sensors.

Proof-of-Network-Participation ensures that IoT gateways provide reliable network service. It validates each gateway’s location and performance to ensure accurate token distribution.

The idea is that if the Crankk network provides good coverage for a geographic area then it can be relied on without thinking much about where exactly the service is needed within that area. Coverage for that area is proven by the network. A failure would be if coverage shows as “proven” for the area but somehow radio packets transmitted by smart meters or trackers are not picked up by the network because maybe some nodes successfully lied about providing coverage for that area. The goal of the PoNP concept is to prevent this from happening.

Crankk supports IoT devices that communicate using LoRaWAN. Sensors, smart meters, trackers and any other device that needs the 'Internet of Things' to convey its data to the internet can work with Crankk. Sectors like agriculture, transportation services, field research, home automation, remote aviation and others benefit from using LoRaWAN technology.

Newly onboarded gateways show 0% rank during the first week. Your rank is being determined. It should become visible after a week.

At the start of each week, the current rank is reset and the upcoming rank is calculated. This often results in a displayed rank of 0%. This issue is being worked on. Rest assured, your rank should restore itself within 24 h.
