FAQ

Got questions? We’ve got answers! Explore our FAQ to find information about the Crankk project and Onboarding process.

I made a purchase, but didn’t receive a confirmation email. Is my order successful?

If you see a message ‘License bought at’ in the Dashboard, then everything is fine, even if you didn’t receive a confirmation email. In case you don’t see such a message, please open a ticket on our Discord server.

I want to buy 5 licenses. Do I need 5 different accounts or 5 different wallets?

You can buy as many software licenses as you wish with one account and one wallet. License is bound to wallet.

You just need to remember the 3×1 rule: 1 software license = 1 gateway = 1 wallet. What does this mean – you must create a separate wallet and purchase a software license for every gateway you want to onboard on the Crankk network.

I didn’t save or lost my secret key, can I recover it?

We’ve received a lot of requests on this topic, so we’ve just implemented a “Reveal Secret Key” functionality when you click the 3-dot icon next to your wallet.

We will work on a second solution allowing you to transfer your software license to another wallet of your choice. This will take a bit more time, so we’ll make a new announcement when we’re done. Thank you for your patience.

Can you recover my $KDA and $CRKK balance or transfer it to another wallet?

Unfortunately we are unable to do this as we have no control over your $KDA wallet.

I forgot my wallet password. How can I reset it?

Wallets are encrypted and cannot be recovered if you lost your password. You can set a new password by clicking on the “Forgot your password?” button and re-import your wallets if you have the secret keys.

How to send $KDA from my Dashboard wallet to another one?

You can send KDA and CRKK to another Kadena wallet from Crankk User Dashboard.

I have sent $KDA to my Dashboard wallet some time ago, but the balance is still 0.

Kadena has 20 chains and Crankk operates on chain 0. It is possible that your $KDA is on another chain and you need to make a cross chain transfer. To do so you have to use a $KDA wallet like eckoWallet. In addition you can paste your public key (wallet address starting with “k:”) here and check the balance of your wallet.

I have created a wallet in the Dashboard, but now I can’t see it anymore?

Try to use the refresh button (above the “Manage wallets” button, next to “Assets”). Then sign out and log back in. Your wallet should appear again.

Which frequencies are supported by the Crankk network?

EU868MHz, US915MHz and CN470MHz. The frequency AU915MHz will be added very soon before the start of the onboarding process.

How can I join the Crankk Network

Read all announcements and learn how you can be part of Crankk.

Do I earn the Crankk Token?

Yes! Crankk Hotspot owners are rewarded with the Kadena blockchain token Crankk for providing proof of coverage. You can learn more about our tokenomics in our Litepaper.

Do I pay gas fees in Kadena then?

Yes. Kadena has one of the lowest gas fees. You should be able to operate your gateway for months having just one Kadena. We’ll also give you some included in the Gateway purchase price to get you started.

Where do I buy Kadena?

There are many ways but if you really have no idea then just search for “Where can I buy Kadena” to find a regular currency to crypto currency exchange. Find the CoinMarketCap list of markets for Kadena here.

About Crankk

Information for a future Crankkster

How is Crankk better than Helium

We’ve been mining Helium for some time and tried to eliminate some of the apparent nuisances we encountered. We’re not saying Crankk is better. We’re striving to make it better.

Seriously, how is it different from Helium?

Crankk didn’t develop its own blockchain. It uses the Kadena blockchain with low gas fees. Crankk is a token on Kadena. This choice eliminates a lot of the complexity and lowers the requirement for the project in terms of what it needs to prove to be viable. Kadena has proven to be fast, resilient, secure and low cost. This way we were able to concentrate on features that make participating in Crankk a lot more fun and a lot less risky.

How are you going to make sure miners get their returns on their investments?

To answer this question we want to make it clear that we optimize for long term viability of the network. Choosing not to develop our own blockchain eliminated a lot of the potential future risks. From the Tokenomics point of view we chose not to have an initial sale of tokens so that everybody starts with zero. Right now the only way to get Crankk Tokens is to earn it by operating a gateway. From the initial investment point of view we chose to leverage the Raspberry Pi because it’s low cost and widely available. Unlike in the case of specialized hardware you can always reuse or resell your Raspberry Pi and the LoRa module and recover some or all of your initial investment. Early adopters will benefit more as with any other project.

Is Crankk really "distributed"?

From the blockchain and token point of view, it is. From the LoRaWAN radio network point of view, it isn’t yet. LoRaWAN was developed with centralized controllers in mind and that makes a lot of sense due to the fact that you don’t want to congest the airwaves and frequencies, want the collected sensor data to arrive at a limited number of central servers that the actual data user is interfacing with, and many other reasons. At the same time we know that more can be done to achieve a higher level of distributedness and we are working constantly to develop in that direction.
